Interfaith Glossary
Understanding sacred language across traditions.
This glossary helps reduce misunderstanding and supports respectful interfaith learning by providing clear, contextual definitions of sacred terms from the world's religious traditions.
Why This Glossary Exists
Across history, humanity has developed countless spiritual traditions, sacred texts, rituals, philosophies, and systems of meaning. Yet many people encounter religious terminology through headlines, social media debates, stereotypes, or incomplete information.
Misunderstanding of sacred terms creates confusion, fear, and division. When words like Jihad, Dharma, Karma, or Messiah are presented without proper context, they can reinforce prejudice rather than build understanding.
The purpose of this glossary is simple: to replace confusion with understanding, fear with knowledge, and division with meaningful dialogue.
This glossary is neutral, respectful, and educational. It does not promote, rank, endorse, or criticize any faith tradition. Each term is explained within its historical, cultural, theological, and spiritual framework, using language that reflects how practitioners understand their own beliefs.
